Interview

1. What are the foundations of your research (Art Identity)?
Connecting surfaces through a sign that is vector and structure, drawing in 3D. The thread sews different times and spaces to make them simultaneous but variable. The spectator participates in the change of the work by moving around it.
2. Who are the artists who have guided you in your research?
My Teachers? Nature with its structuring but invisible forces, the books I've read (many but never too many), the exhibitions I've seen (like Gordon Matta-Clark's in Siena), the trips I've made (like the one to Iraq during the embargo), the artists I met and with whom I shared thoughts and words… in particular Castellani, Bonalumi, Alviani, Perilli and Lucia Latour who I felt were closest to my research. But what most determined my character was my father's and mother's DNA; one logical and rational, the other wild and imaginative… a nice short circuit!
3. Define yourself as a human being using three adjectives.
3 adjectives: stubborn, hyper-sensitive, elastic
4. According to your vision, where is contemporary art going and where would you like it to go?
Art is a sponge that absorbs all the moods that surround it. At best, it anticipates them, bringing us to awareness of the many possible scenarios that will unfold in the near future.

TWO WORDS ABOUT HER WORKS

In Emanuela Fiorelli's works, the continuous attempt to define impalpable space appears incisive, which at times becomes visible through the trajectories marked by her elastic threads.  Defining the indefinable, making the two-dimensional three-dimensional, through the power hidden in a single apparently weak thread, which is capable of generating ambiguous and simulated architectures, up to the point of profound chaos.  Her works unfold in a continuous flow of plays of light and shadow, both real and imaginary, both natural and artificial.  In her elastic threads, tension appears powerful, an invisible force that holds the surfaces together and with it their consequent relaxation.

In 2003 she was invited to the XIV Quadrennial "Anteprima Napoli".  In 2004 you won the National Academy of San Luca / Painting Award.  In 2005 she took part in the exhibition Lucio Fontana and his legacy.  In 2007 you elaborated an intervention and an installation in the context of the conference "Mathematics and Culture", Cà Foscari University, Venice.  In 2008 Gedok rewarded her with a personal exhibition at the Karlsruhe Art Biennial (Frankfurt).  Among her recent exhibitions, we recall her participation in Experimenta, the Farnesina Collection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  In 2010 you won the Banca Aletti ArtVerona Award for the painting / sculpture / installation and video session.  In 2012 she was invited by the Italian Cultural Institute in Lima (Peru) to exhibit her works at the Ccori Wasi Universidad Ricardo Palma Cultural Center Visual Art Gallery.  Since 2012 he has been giving life to experiences in the performative field with "Fogli in ARIA" (Teatro Valle Occupato), "In-tensioni reciproche" presented in Salerno, Milan, Venice and Rome, and "High tension" presented at the "Kilowatt" Festival in Sansepolcro and "From 1848 to infinity" presented at MACRO in Rome in 2019. In 2013 is the exhibition "White & White" in the dialogue between Korea and Italy, Museo Carlo Bilotti, Rome and the installation "Own light" in the Church of the Artists, Piazza del Popolo, Rome.  Since the same year you have been working with the Denise René gallery in Paris with which you have exhibited at Art Basel, FIAC (2013), Artgenève (2019) and ARCO Madrid (2021).  The “Costruttive Art / Kinetic Art” exhibition held in Miami, Florida dates back to 2014.  From 2016 the exhibition “The Sharper Perception, Dynamic Art, Optical and Beyond”, at the GR Gallery in New York.  In 2019 she is invited to present an Installation as part of the “Negative Space” exhibition at the ZKM Museum in Frankfurt and in the same year she wins the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Prize.
