Interview

1. What are the foundations of your research (Art Identity)?
Perceptive aspects of color and its light.
2. Who are the artists who have guided you in your research?
All those who, over the centuries, have given meaning to their thought by communicating it through color, thus enhancing its importance: I could name many, but I am afraid to leave out others.
3. Define yourself as a human being using three adjectives.
Rigorous, demanding, determined.
4. According to your vision, where is contemporary art going and where would you like it to go?
It is difficult to give an exhaustive answer. In my opinion, in art there are no goals to reach, but a continuous search: every lived experience can be transformed into a possible new reading of art and the world. I consider art a faithful mirror of the historical moment in which we live. I would wish for the future a better world than the current one and a more attentive and reflective thought on art and less projected towards the exteriority of cultural fashions.

TWO WORDS ABOUT HER WORKS

Sonia Costantini, when she explains her work, uses the expression "color painting". This immediately reveals that what at first glance could be perceived as monochrome canvases actually hide a chromatic dimension that involves the use of a plurality of colors. In fact, the construction of the tone takes place through many glazes of several water colors. Once the pigmentation that gives meaning to the work itself has been chosen, the artist dedicates himself to creating the real body of the pictorial material. This step occurs through the use of oil paint which emulates the same hue as the primary layer of watercolors. The artist saturates the entire perimeter of the canvas, through a rhythmic, constant and meditated gesture that reaches rituality. Sonia Costantini's link with the current of analytical painting moves away when the investigation moves from how to construct a painting and analyze all its components, to paying attention to arousing the emotions of those who find themselves in front of her orange, red , blue, green, yellow, pink…

Giuseppe Panza di Biumo, speaking of Costantini's works, stated: «Sonia Costantini's paintings cannot be reproduced. It is a situation common to all works of art in which color is the ultimate and exclusive theme. An inconspicuous quality of the painting surface that only a keen eye can see. Every evolution is a new experience, it requires an effort».

Sonia Costantini began exhibiting in the early eighties, since her inception her artistic research has been aimed at investigating painting and mainly at the luministic values of color. She has numerous solo and group exhibitions in public spaces in Italy and abroad.
