Sonia Costantini, when she explains her work, uses the expression "color painting". This immediately reveals that what at first glance could be perceived as monochrome canvases actually hide a chromatic dimension that involves the use of a plurality of colors. In fact, the construction of the tone takes place through many glazes of several water colors. Once the pigmentation that gives meaning to the work itself has been chosen, the artist dedicates himself to creating the real body of the pictorial material. This step occurs through the use of oil paint which emulates the same hue as the primary layer of watercolors. The artist saturates the entire perimeter of the canvas, through a rhythmic, constant and meditated gesture that reaches rituality. Sonia Costantini's link with the current of analytical painting moves away when the investigation moves from how to construct a painting and analyze all its components, to paying attention to arousing the emotions of those who find themselves in front of her orange, red , blue, green, yellow, pink…
Giuseppe Panza di Biumo, speaking of Costantini's works, stated: «Sonia Costantini's paintings cannot be reproduced. It is a situation common to all works of art in which color is the ultimate and exclusive theme. An inconspicuous quality of the painting surface that only a keen eye can see. Every evolution is a new experience, it requires an effort».
