Interview

What are the foundations of your research (Art Identity)?
The long exposure and simply the photographic error. I found great poeticity in the photographic error, my stylistic signature.
Who are the artists who acted as a guideline for you in your research?
So many. The history of art always happens in those 8 seconds in which I shoot. In the case of my solo show at the MIA Photo Fair 2023, I was inspired by the light, by the Flemish painters, to obtain these very intense, very deep blacks, almost like black holes. The light of my candles helps to enhance the shape and roundness of the human body. I help myself with my movement and with the movement of my muses to enhance this photographic error even more. With movement I obtain, enhance or delete the details that I want to highlight or eliminate.
Define yourself as a human being using three adjectives.
Very sensitive, ironic and constant.
In your vision, where is contemporary art going and where would you like it to go? .
Contemporary art, for photography, is certainly moving towards artificial intelligence which I don't agree with. In my opinion, as can also be seen in my works, there must always be the human, physical and emotional touch. Thinking emotion through a machine is a loss for the human being. So, everything that is art that passes through artificial intelligence disappoints me. For the rest, I like art that tells about the human being, a bit like a sociological description of our society. My life has always been based on humanism which is what helps to have a much broader vision and thus see many facets. Telling you exactly where contemporary art will go is very difficult, because there are always many variables

Two words about her work

Veronica Gaido was born in Viareggio in 1974
and she took her first steps in the world of photography while still a teenager, moving first to Milan, where she studied at the Italian Institute of Photography and then honed her talent through various experiences in the most prestigious European visual arts schools. In 2001, on the occasion of the Venice Biennale curated by Harald Szeemann, she collaborated in the creation of the "Poetic Bunker"
by Marco Nereo Rotelli. In August 2002 she held her first personal exhibition "Quicksels" curated by Maurizio Vanni, in the space
by Massimo Rebecchi in Forte dei Marmi.
In addition to photography, you have explored new perspectives, as on the occasion of the creation of the video for the Henraux Foundation, presented at the Milan Triennale in 2012, using
a drone for aerial video shooting. In the same year she was invited to take part in the “Henraux Foundation Award” jury, chaired by Philippe Daverio, creating the “Awareness of Matter” project. In 2013 she undertakes
a journey between India and Bangladesh that brings
to the photographic project “Atman” curated
by Enrico Mattei and Roberto Mutti, exhibited
in Pietrasanta, Milan, London and Paris.
Since 2014 you have dedicated yourself to the "Mogador" project entirely built in the port of Essaouira,
in Morocco. In 2017, at the end of the works, she exhibited with Vito Tongiani in Rabat, Essaouira
and Seville. In May 2019, she presented the “Doppio Corpo” exhibition curated by Marco Di Capua and Benedetta Donato in the San Salvatore in Lauro Museums in Rome. In May 2021 you opened the exhibition “Dedalo” in Venice at the Casa dei Tre Oci, curated by Denis Curti, subsequently also exhibited in Milan in 2022 at the Still Fotografia gallery.
In 2023 she opens the exhibition “Invisible Cities”, curated by Maria Vittoria Baravelli, in the Italian Consulate General in New York.
